Our Education

Our purpose is to provide high quality education to each child according to individual need within a caring and nurturing environment Barford Education offers education to:
- Disaffected young people
- Young people in residential care
- Excluded or suspended young people
- Young people in foster care

We are proud to say that all our education staff are able to demonstrate patience, understanding, commitment and perseverance, and strive endlessly to build up good relationships with all our young people

We believe all the young people we work with can embrace education provided the environment is conducive to their needs.

Young people in our care, if not in “mainstream” education have the opportunity to attend our own *Oakwood School. Other young people with more complex education and/or therapeutic needs can be educated in one of our smaller specialised educational units. There, we are able to offer high ratio staffing and where individual educational and therapeutic plans can be implemented. These home-based units have their own dedicated teaching staff, resources and timetables

Educational Assessment
Barford Education’s own independent Educational Psychologist will assess each young person upon entering education and thereafter at twelve-month intervals. Also in the first half term they will be given the opportunity to attempt a series of baseline assessments to determine levels of achievement. From the outcome from these assessments, we will be able to write each young person an Individual Education Plan. From the Individual Plan each young person’s educational needs are tailored around them.

This plan will be re-assessed and amended every 3 months, setting new realistic achievable targets for each individual young person.

A variety of teaching methods are used to ensure that individual targets are met. Regular reviews of the young persons progress towards these targets are a vital part of our teaching practices.

In addition, young people are carefully assessed throughout the academic year and their progress is measured against their potential, to ensure that the work is challenging and tailored to meet their individual needs.

The young person’s educational attainment is always at the forefront of our planning, and their needs are continually assessed. The initial process is one of creating stability and consistency.
